We'll receive special access to a real farm in Biei's picturesque hills and take a look at the crops being grown first-hand. Then we'll get to taste what we saw at a local restaurant!
JR Biei Station
Jul ~ Sep
10:30 (~3 Hrs)
Biei is known for its beautiful rolling "patchwork hills" that stretch across the landscape as far as the eye can see. These hills draw in thousands of tourists each year - but in addition to tourism, Biei is primarily a working town where farming and agriculture brings in a significant percentage of the town's income after tourism. The delicious produce grown here makes its way across Japan - and, in some cases, the world!
We'll receive special permission from a local farmer to enter his field, today. We'll take a stroll through the field and take a look at some of Biei's local produce growing fresh. We may expect to see wheat, potatoes, sugar beet, corn... who knows? Your Dohoku Local, accompanying you, will be sure to explain what you're looking at as well as answer any burning questions you may have about farm life in Biei!
After enjoying the farm, we'll make our way to a local viewpoint to appreciate the farmer's fields from another angle before we head to a popular farm-to-table restaurant. We'll dine on a delicious lunch which will certainly include some local Biei produce and perhaps even some of the crops we saw earlier today! After enjoying lunch, we'll make our way back to Biei Station.
